With your generous help we distributed close to 100 000 kg of food aid in the village of Irim, Burkina Faso between April and September of 2012. The neediest people in the community were selected by our partner organisation, the AAAE (Association Aidons Afrique Ensemble), to receive enough grain to eat at least one meal a day for the duration of an acute food shortage following a disastrous drought.
Thanks to God, the harvest in 2012 was bountiful and the danger of imminent starvation has ceased. We are now turning our attention to building sustainable water infrastructure to lessen the impact of future droughts. Our first project was the construction of a market garden for the women of Yirim Yaga, next to Irim. Irrigated by a system of wells, the market garden has the potential to both increase the incomes of local families while diversifying their diets to include more vegetables which are otherwise extremely difficult to grow in the harsh, dry climate of northern Burkina Faso.
So far, we were able to build two wells to irrigate the market garden. Now with the assistance of the Bosnian Relief Association of Canada, we will (God willing) build a water filtration pump to provide clean drinking water. For this project we are appealing directly for your help. Our goal is to raise $19,000 dollars by October 2013 (at Eid ul Adha).
Some of our members will also be traveling to the village in Irim in October to keep track of the progress made and ensure building work has been completed as planned.
With your contributions we will be able to realize the dream of making the land around Irim more fruitful for the people who endlessly labour upon it. May our friendship with the people of Irim continue in this way! Ameen.

Yes, we cannot feed the world but we can definitely make a difference
As we speak, at least 7 million people face starvation in a large section of West African countries such as Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Tchad
Thankfully the Canadian Sufi Cultural Center has a direct connection to the community of Irim in northern Burkina Faso which has suffered 60 per cent crop failure due to drought. Through a local grassroots organisation in Burkina Faso, named Tar Wend Panga, we have the resources and logistical ability to feed 2000 people in the coming months.
All that is needed is our financial support. A mere 50 dollars will feed a family of 5 to 10 people for 1 month. This even includes the cost of shipping from the south of the country where there is food.
For every 50 dollars they receive, Tar Wend Panga will purchase 100 kg of grain and distribute it directly to the most vulnerable families.
